Health Department to hold annual Back-To-School Fair
The Hays County Health Department will host a Back-To-School Fair on July 20 at the health department in San Marcos, Texas. Vaccinations and free backpacks purchased with donated funds from State Rep. Erin Zwiener will be available for school-age children. New features, improvements will be unveiled at Paul Peña Park
The city of San Marcos invites residents and community members to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony of the Paul Peña Park improvement project. Since mid-June, city contractors have been working on replacing playground equipment, adding shade and turf, and extending the sidewalk to create an ADA-compliant loop around the park. In addition, the park is also unveiling a small skate spot. Gary Job Corps students assist Sunrise Village Retirement Community
, , Operated by the Southside Community Center, Sunrise Village Retirement Center is an affordable senior community in San Marcos. Southside Community Center Director said that, “The Gary Job Corps Center is a wonderful partner, assisting with building projects, volunteering for ‘World Homeless Day’ activities, serving residents and having student interns through the Work-Based Learning Program as projects came up.” For over 20 years, Gary Job Corps students in the construction trades have been involved with projects in the Central Texas Area, including the community center in Redwood, classroom building at the Burke Center for Youth in Driftwood, the walking and jogging trail around Christus Santa Rosa Hospital in San Marcos, the ADA ramp at Martindale City Hall, numerous projects for Parks and Recreation and the City of San Marcos as well as the outdoor patio for AMVETS in Kyle.
