Gary Job Corps students assist Sunrise Village Retirement Community
, , Operated by the Southside Community Center, Sunrise Village Retirement Center is an affordable senior community in San Marcos. Southside Community Center Director said that, “The Gary Job Corps Center is a wonderful partner, assisting with building projects, volunteering for ‘World Homeless Day’ activities, serving residents and having student interns through the Work-Based Learning Program as projects came up.” For over 20 years, Gary Job Corps students in the construction trades have been involved with projects in the Central Texas Area, including the community center in Redwood, classroom building at the Burke Center for Youth in Driftwood, the walking and jogging trail around Christus Santa Rosa Hospital in San Marcos, the ADA ramp at Martindale City Hall, numerous projects for Parks and Recreation and the City of San Marcos as well as the outdoor patio for AMVETS in Kyle.
