Ameren Missouri will soon modify decades-old meter technology in southeast Missouri, deploying upgraded natural gas modules to give customers more smart features for managing their service.

Work will begin this July, in Cape Girardeau and Dexter, Mo. No cost will be associated with the installations, and once finished, customers will be able to dig into the data their meters collect through their Ameren Missouri accounts. Using a tool known as My Energy Manager, these customers will see when they are using energy, expected bills and compare current usage to past bills, letting them be the final arbiters of when and how to save money or adjust habits.

“We’re excited to roll out this new technology in southeast Missouri because it gives our natural gas customers more precise energy usage information than ever before,” John Luth, director of the smart meter program at Ameren Missouri, said. “It also provides increased safety measures to securely send us their information, which will work with our upgraded energy grid to bring everyone next-level reliability and service.”

While this starts in the southeast, all 135,000 Ameren Missouri natural gas customers will receive the new modules within the next year. The southeast Missouri portion is expected to wrap up by winter 2024.

Nothing will be required on the part of customers save for access to the existing meters to be provided.
