Ohio to Install 22 New EV Fast-Charging Stations, including in Marysville

Marysville to Gain New EV Fast-Charging Station

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has announced the allocation of nearly $16 million to install 22 new electric vehicle (EV) fast-charging stations across the state, with Marysville being one of the key sites selected for this initiative.

As reported by Union County Daily Digital, Marysville will soon see a new fast-charging station constructed at Sheetz on Delaware Ave. The total project cost is $961,855, with the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Program funding $769,484 and Francis Energy Charging, LLC contributing an additional $192,371. Construction of the Marysville fast-charging station is expected to start either late this year or early in 2025.

Although reported numbers vary, Marysville has less than 20 public charging station ports (Level 2 and Level 3) to serve the approximately 1000 fully electric cars registered in the city. This represents a 60:1 ratio per port. Current research recommends 1 public charger for every 10 to 15 electric cars. Any less can result in long wait times and possible aborted trips. And Ohio has charging goals of their own. The addition of these new stations moves Ohio closer to its goal of locating fast chargers every 50 miles throughout the state. Each location designed to be no more than one mile from the freeway and ideally would include four charger ports with at least 150 kilowatts of power available per port. These stations will also include access to amenities like restrooms and a place to purchase food and beverages.

“As more electric cars and trucks make their way to Ohio roadways, we’re continuing to build the infrastructure needed to enable easy and convenient travel,” said Governor DeWine though his press release.
