SAINT JAMES CITY, Fla. — Firefighters battled flames Thursday afternoon after a vehicle and golf cart caught fire, reportedly causing a powerline to fall in St. James City. According to the Matlacha Pine Island Fire District, at around 5:15 p.m., crews responded to the scene off Coconut Drive. Firefighters found an empty vehicle and golf cart fully engulfed in flames.

Cape Coral currently ranks 12th out of 38 agencies in Speeding or Aggressive Driving for traffic fatalities and serious injuries on the Highway Safety Matrix – Ranking of Florida. To improve traffic safety in the City, the Department has partnered with FDOT’s Traffic Safety Office to bring additional enforcement and education through the implementation of saturation patrols.
