The mother of a Denver homeless man told the City Council Monday that city-sponsored services have failed her son. Barbara Hallick Yeomans made her remarks during public comment period of the City Council meeting. She said her son grapples with substance abuse and mental illness and repeatedly has been harassed by police. She said her son also suffered verbal abuse by a guard in the Denver County Jail. Yeomans said she heard the guard harassing her son over the phone.

The Aurora City Council will consider Monday allowing residents of the city to own up to four dogs, an increase from the current city limit of three dogs per household. “The love for dogs is an age-old sentiment that transcends cultures and societies,” reads the ordinance, sponsored by council member Francoise Bergan. “Dogs have not only become companions to the young and old, but also are considered members of a family unit.”
