General Hospital Spoilers: Ava Betrayal Leaves John in Danger

Ava Jerome’s history of self-preservation is about to come back in full force, and this time, her sights are set on John Cates. As she maneuvers her way out of the sticky placebo situation, Ava may decide that John is the perfect scapegoat. With her reputation on the line and the walls closing in, Ava’s loyalty—or lack thereof—will put John in the crosshairs.

Ava’s Devious Plan Unfolds

Ava's plan did not work out too well, but it did reveal exactly who she is. Ava would turn on John in a heartbeat if she were to disregard her best friend, Nina, as unimportant! Ava framing John and using him as her fall guy over this placebo scenario could be the twist that the show is preparing for. The first order to reduce Sonny's medication to a quarter of its regular strength came from Valentin. Fans of GH will remember that after taking some of Sonny's pills and becoming suspicious when they did not seem to be doing anything, Ava found that change.

That may have been significant because it led to Ava having the pills examined in a lab. Ava could use the lab test results as evidence to support her claim that she did not order the modified medications. If Ava started this scheme, why would she have Sonny's medications examined to find out what was in them? If the situation calls for it, Ava might ask Sonny, Jason, and the police that query.

Of course, Ava eventually used blackmail to force the pharmacist to give Sonny whole placebos, but she managed to hide her tracks quite well by persuading Cates to fire Clement. If John is accused by Ava of ordering Sonny's placebos, then that could work against him. Once Ava realized the pills were only at quarter strength, she might act as though John had admitted to his scheme.

John’s Life Hangs in the Balance

Maybe Ava will insist that Cates told Clement to take a full placebo when Sonny was not deviating from the path quickly enough, and then he sent him off to cover his own tracks. John will no doubt deny all of this, but he will look culpable, especially considering how he recently provoked Sonny at the courthouse. John might be in trouble right now because he made the pharmacist who was involved in this case vanish.

Jason was informed by Ava that Sonny had another enigmatic foe who was responsible for the pill swap, but she declined to name him and pretended that her knowledge was the only thing that was keeping her alive. However, Ava must eventually provide a name. Will it be Agent John Cates when that time comes? Since Ava does not know Valentin was ever involved, her choice to place the blame on John and try to channel Sonny's ire elsewhere makes sense.
