    Victim identified in fatal July 4th stabbing at Carolina Beach

    The victim of a fatal stabbing on July 4th in Carolina Beach has been identified by law enforcement.

    Carolina Beach police were dispatched to the 600 block of Spencer Farlow Drive at 7:40 a.m. on July 4 in response to a "person down" call for service, according to a prior news release from the town of Carolina Beach. Officers observed a deceased victim with apparent stab wound injuries.

    The victim has been identified as 28-year-old Dakota Ryan Capes of Carolina Beach, according to a news release from the town of Carolina Beach.

    One suspect, 41-year-old James Arthur Johnson, has been charged with second-degree murder.

    Johnson was being held at the New Hanover County Jail under a $1 million secured bond as of Wednesday morning, according to the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office.
