JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — A 33-year-old Illinois man drowned at Rockford Park on Big River in Jefferson County, Missouri. Guadalupe L. Lopez drowned around 1 p.m. on Tuesday, the Missouri Highway Patrol says. Lopez entered the water and went under and was pronounced dead by paramedics.

Addison man arrested on animal cruelty charges at rural Sandwich property following investigation by local, state law enforcement
Following a lengthy investigation by the Illinois Department of Agriculture (IDOA) and the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office, an Addison man was arrested on animal cruelty charges in rural Sandwich Tuesday morning. 60-year-old Mohammad M. Raza-Ahsan was taken into custody on two counts of cruel treatment of animals and three counts of animal cruelty-owner's duties at the property located in the 17000 block of Wagner Road.
No charges to be filed after shooting that killed man in Arlington Heights apartment
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (CBS) -- Prosecutors have decided that charges will be filed in the death of a man who unlawfully entered an Arlington Heights apartment this past weekend.Around 1:40 p.m. Sunday, Arlington Heights police were called to the Arbor Lakes Apartment Complex in the 4200 block of North Bloomington Avenue—after a resident said a man had been shot inside her apartment.Arlington Heights police said Jimmie Jackson, 33, went into the home of a woman who had an order of protection against him—and once inside, he attacked a man. That man had a gun, and he shot and killed Jackson, police said.The man who fired the shots and the woman were taken into custody for questioning after the shooting.But the Cook County State's Attorney's office reviewed the case, and decide not to charge the gunman or anyone else.

Brookfield looks to create new class of liquor license
Brookfield may soon introduce a new class of liquor license to the village. At its July 22 committee of the whole meeting, the Brookfield village board discussed the possibility of creating a liquor license for businesses that specialize in art or artisan products and host regular classes or events. The license would allow these businesses to provide and serve alcohol to registered guests at events on the premises. Businesses with this kind of license would not be allowed to serve alcohol outside of scheduled events.

Sidewalk construction to start soon
The village awarded contractor Nardulli Construction Company, Inc. the project to redo stretches of sidewalk around the village at a July 22 council meeting. . Nardulli Construction was one of six contractors to bid on the project to replace sidewalks and curbs around the village. The contractor bid $45,520 when Christopher B. Burke Engineering, the village engineer, estimated the project to cost $60,200. Burke Engineering also reviewed the bid documents.

MILWAUKEE, WIS. -- The Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference has announced the 2023-24 NACC Scholar-Athletes. This year, 167 CUC student-athletes were named to the list. Dr. Ryan Calabretta-Sajder ’05 has been named director of the International and Global Studies Program at the University of Arkansas. Calabretta-Sajder graduated from Dominican with a B.A. in Italian Studies and English Literature. He joined the University of Arkansas in 2013, teaching various subjects such as Italian, African and African American studies, comparative literature and cultural studies, and more, according to the university. He most recently was an associate professor of Italian and associate director of the university’s Gender Studies Program.
