Carter County Commission votes to hire engineers and architects for Tweetsie Trail master plan
ELIZABETHTON — The Carter County Commission gave the go ahead Monday night to begin planning for the extension of the Tweetsie Trail from Valley Forge to Hampton. The county commission voted 22-1 in favor of a professional contract to hire a joint team from two engineering companies to compile a master plan for the proposal to extend the Tweetsie Trail from its current ending at Hatcher Lane in the eastern section of Elizabethton. The two companies are the landscape architects firm of Thompson & Litton, the engineering firm that recently acquired the Johnson City engineering firm of Tysinger, Hampton & Partners. Thompson & Litton is partnering with Ross/Fowler from a landscape architecture company from Knoxville.

Escaped Carter County inmate charged with murder in connection with man's disappearance
JOHNSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WCYB) — An escaped Carter County inmate who was captured in South Carolina last week has been charged with murder, authorities said Friday. Billy Fletcher, 43, of Butler, has been charged in connection with the disappearance of Victor Birchfield. Human remains believed to be those of Birchfield were discovered on July 6 in Butler, according the Carter County Sheriff's Office.
