(Carroll) -- It took a memorable comeback, but Underwood baseball is one step closer to finishing their story as state champions. A year after falling in the state title game, the Eagles nearly missed out on the chance for redemption, but a feverish rally overshadowed their slow start in an 8-7 win over Chariton in a Class 2A state semifinal Thursday afternoon on KMA-FM 99.1, putting Underwood (29-2) back in the state final.

Underwood One Step Closer to State Title
(Carroll, IA) Underwood baseball took down Unity Christian 3-1 in the 2A State Baseball Tournament quarterfinals. Unity Christian took the lead right out of the gate with a one-run lead in the top of the first inning. However, the lead didn’t last long as Underwood fired back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the second. Sophomore Garrett Luett was the standout player for the Eagles in this contest and did everything he could to help his team win. Luett got the win on the mound throwing all seven innings, allowing one earned run, and tallied 11 strikeouts. In the batter’s box, Luett also led the way for Underwood with a two-run triple in the bottom of the second to give Underwood the lead and the win.
