Mother of 2 killed when drag racer fleeing police crashes into vehicle
WARREN, MI – Three muscle cars were allegedly drag racing when police officers initiated a traffic stop that turned into a deadly chase, FOX 2 Detroit reports. Katrina Shuker, 42, died of injuries sustained in a crash with one of the fleeing vehicles around 1:30 a.m., the report said. Saturday near the borders of Detroit suburbs Madison Heights, Hazel Park and Warren. Shuker was a passenger in a Jeep. The single mother of two boys, 14 and 18, was getting a ride home with a friend.
Anchor Bay Triathlon returning to New Baltimore
Competitors from near and far will soon converge in downtown New Baltimore for the annual Anchor Bay Triathlon. Now in its 39th year, the race includes a half-mile swim in Lake St. Clair, an 11-mile bike and a 3-mile run to the finish line. This year’s event is scheduled to start at 7 a.m. July 13 at Walter and Mary Burke Park. The registration deadline has been extended to July 5.

A gaping hole greeted potential shoppers at a Rochester Hills pet supply store Wednesday afternoon after a morning accident. According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, emergency responders were summoned to Walton Boulevard near Livernois Road at 9:11 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, with a report that a car was driven into the building.

Grace Elizabeth (nee Bliss) Smith, 80, a longtime former resident of Grosse Pointe Farms, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at McLaren Macomb Hospital in Mount Clemens. She was born June 28, 1943, in Detroit, to Willis “Dolly” and Harold “Jack” Bliss, both now deceased. Affectionately called “Cookie” by members of her immediate family, Grace graduated from Dearborn High School and attended Western Michigan University. The beautiful “Miss Bliss” met the love of her life, supervising teacher Russell T. Smith, when she was assigned to serve as a student teacher in his classroom. They married Aug. 13, 1966.
