Smith’s Food & Drug will open a new Smith’s Marketplace store at 744 North Main Street in Heber City on Saturday, July 20, at 8 a.m. The 123,000 square foot multi-department store will offer a full line of grocery products along with apparel, household goods, outdoor garden center and sporting equipment. The new store features a floral department, drive-through pharmacy, made-from-scratch donuts, online grocery pick up and a Starbucks with indoor seating for 50 people and a seasonal outdoor patio for 25 guests. A mural of the Heber Valley, created by local artist John Moore, will greet customers as they enter the store.

Vehicle hits, kills bear on I-80 in Summit County, witness says
Morgan resident Rod Myers said he passed a black bear shortly after it had been hit on I-80 in northern Summit County. “The vehicle that hit it was gone,” he said. Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Wyatt Howard is a 28-year-old driver from Price. Howard drives the number 72w car and races in the IMCA Modified and Dirt Late Model Classes. He has been around racing his entire life and has been racing at the level for the last 14 years. His father Harvey Howard started racing dirt cars after an unfortunate motorcycle accident that had left him paralyzed. He raced late models and modifieds throughout the 90s and 2000s, until he retired in 2010. He is now right by his son’s side, as they continue to chase the dream.
