Hawthorne Street fire in Schenectady displaces 11
SCHENECTADY — A fire on Hawthorne Street displaced 11 residents on Tuesday afternoon, with Red Cross volunteers assisting two adults and nine children at the scene. Schenectady Fire Chief Donald Mareno said the small fire at 1433 Hawthorne St. was extinguished within 10 minutes — contained to its area of origin. There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire. Mareno said the department is still investigating the fire.

Joe was born in Poland and at the age of 11, made the journey to America with his parents to escape the horrors that were occurring in his homeland. Joe and his parents settled in Rochester, NY where he attended the local schools. Joe enlisted and served in the army after high school.
