Six great cats you can welcome into your home right now

Many people have lost faith in the news and question truth from all comers. The idea of a universal truth, outside of the sky being blue and that one plus one equals two, seems to be more and more elusive. One thing that everyone can agree on, however, is that cats are the world's greatest pets. Dogs are fine, sure, but they aren't cats. Fish are kind of fun to look at...for like five minutes. Cats though? No fact check needed. They're the best.

All of these cats are all available for adoption at local Kansas City animal shelters. Just use the Petfinder link provided with each cat to get in contact with them.

    Louise

First up is Louise, from Great Plains SPCA, who was featured here around four months ago. Louise is a shy girl which might explain why she has yet to be adopted, but she really is a sweetheart. She loves other cats and would thrive in a home that already has one or more. No cats? Great Plains SPCA will be thrilled to hook you up with one of Louise's pals at the shelter.

Louise is, again, what humans like to call "introverted" so she might not be all that outgoing in the beginning, but soon enough you'll have a best bud on your hand. Introverts might not have a ton of friends, but they have close friends. Wouldn't you like to be Louise's BFF? You can check her out here.

    Pixy

Next up, from the Friends of Parkville Animal Shelter is Pixy. This three-year-old gray tabby had to move out on her own because she didn't get along with her roommate, a dog. Her family thought that she'd be happier in a different home, so they brought her to the Friends of Parkville Animal Shelter.

Pixy is hoping to find a new home fast. The trauma of moving away from her home has made her skittish, but once she finds a new home and realizes that this time it's for good, she'll get back to her friendly self. When she is in her comfort zone she's as sweet and playful as can be. If you think you might be able to open your home up to this little lady, you can fill out the Friends of Parkville Animal Shelter's pre-adoption application here. It doesn't obligate you to anything. Here's hoping Pixy's dream of a cozy home of her own, without dogs that bully her around, comes true.

    Calliope

I did a double-take when I saw Calliope from Meowy Matchmakers. For the longest time, there was a "Calliope" at another cat rescue place, Cats Pawjamas, that I had featured here twice. Turns out that Calliope, also a tortie, has been since adopted, and this is an entirely different cat. Hopefully this one will find a home more quickly than the last one, who was at Cats Pawjamas for quite a while.

Calliope, like Pixy, had to move out of her home because of a bad relationship with a dog. Her dad moved in with a woman who had a dog, and unfortunately the two pets didn't get along. Two displaced cats in a row begs the question--why does it always have to be the cat and not the dog that moves out? Didn't they get the memo that cats are the best pets? I blame our education system.

Calliope though, again like Pixy, has been traumatized by the upheaval and will take some time to warm up to a new home. Once she does though, you'll have a chill, cuddly cat on your hands. She's about nine years old, but keep in mind that's an estimate, so she might actually be a little older. Don't let her age dissuade you-getting an older cat is great for people who just want some calm companionship and not a little animal in their house bouncing off the walls.

Given her past, she'd probably be best in a home without dogs and gets along okay with other cats but ideally would be solo. You can learn more about her here.

    Handsome and MooMoo

Next up are the bonded siblings, Handsome and MooMoo. Handsome is the one on top with the mostly black face. MooMoo is the long-haired tuxedo just below him. They're about five years old. It would be fantastic if you could adopt them both and see that they spend their entire lives together.

Handsome is the more outgoing of the two, but they're both sweet as can be. MooMoo loves chin scratches and is quite a purr factory. Handsome's a playful guy and will take all the attention you're willing to give him. Here's another pic of Handsome:

Handsome really is handsome. It's not like when people call a chubby guy, "Slim." Here is a pic of MooMoo.

No lady likes being compared to a cow, so you might consider giving her a new name. She's not old enough to be a MeeMaw. Maybe MeowMeow?

    Thimble

Let's end with a cute kitten...Thimble from Cats Pawjamas. Thimble is the "funt" of the litter and is much larger than his sisters. Whether he'll grow up to be a big cat, no one knows, but he is sure a big kitten.

He's a playful guy and will provide endless entertainment as he hops around like a bunny rabbit that's been eating peeps all day. Notice his "ready to play" pose in the picture. He is famous around Cats Pawjamas for this. He'll freeze laying on his back, waiting for you to bring a toy in his path. When you do, he'll smack at it once and freeze again, as if he thinks he was an invisible ninja.

You can learn more about Thimble here.

That's it for this week. Want to look at more cats? Check out my profile here. Many of the cats featured on past posts are still available!
