These five amazing cats are all available to adopt from local Kansas City shelters. Just click on their respective links to learn more about them.

Faith, from Meowy Matchmakers is both shy and a senior, a combination that might make it a challenge for her to find her next family. I have faith though that someone will be lucky enough to scoop her up--maybe you?

This snowshoe mix certainly has her looks going for her, she's as cute as can be, and is very sweet. Snowshoes are known to latch onto a favorite human and be their shadow, so if you want a companion who will sit by your side while you read articles about adoptable cats, Faith may be the one for you. You can learn more about her here.

    Io

Did you know that August 17th is National Black Cat Appreciation Day? Yeah, it seems like there's a day for everything anymore, but any excuse to celebrate cats is a good one. Io is here to help up celebrate black cats of all shapes and sizes. She's a little one herself.

Because of black cat bias (it's a thing--there's been studies), black cats take longer to be adopted and are more likely to be euthanized, the poor things. Still, black cats are just as sweet as any other cat and Io is a great example. This kitten, from Great Plains SPCA, is a playful, silly girl who just wants to give a family a lifetime of fun and affection. You can learn more about her here.

    Frida

Next up is a toddler tabby, Frida, from The Animal Rescue Alliance. Despite being just under six months old, Frida is calm and collected, too cool to be phased by her siblings' shenanigans. She is not too cool to hang out with her humans, however, and will gladly keep you company while you catch up on Netflix or watch the Royals' game.

She gets along well with other cats and dogs and would be tickled to join a full house of furry friends. You can learn more about Frida here.

    Jazz

Returning to Black Cat Appreciation day, we have a second black cat. This time it is Jazz from Cats Pawjamas. Jazz has graced these pages before, first featured over a year ago. Statistics vary but cats, on average, take less than a month to be adopted, so her being at Cats Pawjamas for over a year? That's a downright shame. Thank goodness Jazz lives in a kind foster home, but it'd be great if she had somewhere more permanent to call her own.

Jazz is on the shy side but gets along with her foster mom swimmingly--it just takes her some time to warm up to new people. She's fine around other cats and dogs--in fact, she often sleeps with one of her home's foster dogs. All that she asks is for a home that's on the calmer side. I think it is fair to say that most cats prefer the calmness--if there's chaos, they want to be the ones creating it.

You can learn more about Jazz here.

    Zoomie

Speaking of chaos, last but not least, we have Zoomie. Despite the serene picture of her in snooze mode, Zoomie earns her name with all the antics she gets into. Lately she's been learning to play fetch.

Zoomie is about three and a half months old and like most kittens would do best in a family with other furry friends where she can expend some of that energy of hers. She might put on a little hissy fit when she first meets a new cat or dog, but she does get along with them (so long as they don' mind roughhousing). She also needs her energy redirected from nibbling on hands and feet to nibbling on toys. Her manners can do nothing but improve over time.

If you're looking for a wild one, Zoomie might be the girl for you. To learn more about her, you can fill out The Friends of Parkville Pre-Adoption application here. Her Petfinder page also has a cute video of her playing that's worth checking out.

That's all for this week. Want to look at more cats? Check out my profile here. Many of the cats featured on past posts are still available!
