Jury convicts Catskill woman of 2021 murder

CATSKILL, N.Y. ( NEWS10 )– A Greene County jury found Carrie Weiser guilty of second-degree murder for fatally stabbing 68-year-old Scott Myers on Thursday. After three days of deliberation, the jury delivered the verdict.

On Nov. 27, 2021, around midnight, police were called to an apartment in Catskill, where they found Myers with a stab wound in the left side of his neck. Myers died on the scene after bleeding out due to his carotid artery was severed.

Weiser was arrested on Nov. 27, 2021, and indicted on a second-degree murder charge in early December. Weiser will be sentenced in Greene County Court on Tuesday, Aug. 27, at 2 p.m.

District Attorney Joseph Stanzione said the case was complicated because there was so much evidence to present to the jury. He commended the jury for their thorough work.

“It was clear that the jury studied all of the evidence which included photographs, video recordings, interviews, demonstrative evidence,” Stanzione said. “This jury left no stone uncovered before unanimously concluding that Carrie Weiser did, in fact, murder Scott Myers.”

Stanzione added that the defense council, Danielle Neroni and William Roberts, suggested alternate theories like Scott committing suicide, Weiser being intoxicated so she couldn’t be held accountable so she couldn’t formulate an intent to murder, and self-defense from Scott raping her.
