Andrew ‘Andy’ Gire
Andrew C. “Andy” Gire, age 43 of Park River, passed away Friday, July 19, 2024, at First Care Health Center of Park River. Andy was born Nov. 24, 1980, in Grafton, son of Tim and Teresa (Fjeld) Gire. He grew up and attended school in Park River, graduating from Park River High School. He attended NDSCS in Wahpeton for two years before returning to Park River. Upon returning to Park River he worked several jobs before starting at Park River Implement in 2009. He was united in marriage to Monique Lopez on Dec. 6, 2023, in Park River. He continued working as a precision farming specialist and ag diesel mechanic until his health forced him to quit working in November of 2023.

Michelle Paulson, 44, Hoople, passed away July 1, 2024. A memorial service was held Saturday, July 6, at First Lutheran Church of Hoople. Michelle Lee Nickel was born April 9, 1980, in Phoenix, Arizona, to Laura and David Nickel. She grew up in Phoenix until she and her family moved to Olympia, Washington. She worked at Ruby Tuesday and married Robert Paulson Dec. 22, 2007. The family moved to Hoople in 2010.

Names released in deadly northeast North Dakota motorcycle crash
CAVALIER, N.D. (KFGO) – The Highway Patrol has released names in a deadly crash in northeast North Dakota Friday night. Jenny Halldorson, 43 of Hamilton, was a passenger on a motorcycle that hit a deer on a county road around 11 p.m. Halldorson was thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene.

One Dead, Another Injured in Motorcycle Crash near Bathgate, ND
A Cavalier, North Dakota motorcycle driver has life-threatening injuries and faces charges for killing his passenger after crashing into a deer Friday night. Investigators say deer came out of the ditch on County Road 4, about 4 Miles east of Bathgate and into the path of 43-year-old Robert Winkler’s motorcycle. 43-year-old Jenny Halldorson of Hamilton, North Dakota was thrown from the bike and died at the scene. No helmets were worn. He is in Pembina County Memorial Hospital in and faces charges of driving under revocation and driving without liability insurance.

Jenny Halldorson killed in Pembina County motorcycle accident
BATHGATE, ND, (July 19, 2024) - A woman died and a man was critically injured as the result of a motorcycle crash Friday night in Pembina County. According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, 43-year-old Robert Winkler was driving the bike along County Road 4, about four miles east of Bathgate, when a deer entered his path. The impact caused the motorcycle to enter a ditch trapping Winkler beneath it, while his passenger was ejected.
VIPA gets permit approval for STT Harbor dredging
The V.I. Port Authority on Monday announced that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers approved a permit application to dredge St. Thomas Harbor. The project entails dredging to a controlling depth of 40 feet — or 12.1 meters — in the harbor’s main channel, 38 feet in the turning basin and 36 feet at the West Indian Co. berths to accommodate larger vessels.

Notice of Availability of Final Watershed Plan- Environmental Impact Statement for the North Branch Park River Watershed Plan sponsored by the Park River Joint Water Resource District (Pembina County WRD and Walsh County WRD) The United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) announces the availability of a Final Watershed Plan – Environmental Impact Statement for the North Branch Park River Watershed Plan. The Park River Joint Water Resource District proposes to construct a multi-purpose, offchannel, dry dam with a drainage area of 33.8 square miles, embankment length of 2.6 miles, maximum height of 17.3 feet, and average height of 9.7 feet. The dam will provide 2,593 acre-feet of temporary flood storage at the auxiliary spillway crest elevation and inundate 466-acres for a duration of less than two weeks during flood events. Within the temporary flood pool, 133.6 acres of shallow retention cells will be constructed and managed via water control and biomass harvest for removal of incoming nutrient loads. The project will also result in restoration of 470.8 acres of wetlands, enhancement of 18.4 acres of existing wetlands, restoration of 36.3 acres of upland wildlife habitat, and protection of 3.9 acres of upland wildlife habitat.
