Grafton Fire Department celebrates 100-year history
GRAFTON, Vt. – On Saturday, July 20, the Grafton Trails and Outdoor Center will host the annual Food and Antique Tractor Festival, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Along with music, food, arts and crafts, a silent auction, and a raffle to win one of two locally made quilts, there will be the opportunity to donate to the Windham County Humane Society through a purchase from Phinney’s Phriends, or a tarot card reading for your dog or cat courtesy of Anuszka.
Historical Society hosts 18th Century rural Vermont healers talk
Sunday, July 21 at 2 p.m.—CAVENDISH—The Cavendish Historical Society (CHS) will be hosting a talk – 18th Century Rural Vermont Healers – on July 21 (Sunday) 2 p.m. at the CHS Museum, off route 131 in Cavendish Village. The talk will include the history of 18th Century healers, treatments, as well as how plants and herbs were used then and now. A brief medicinal plant walk around the Museum will conclude the program. This event is free and open to the public.
Pauley retires, Plymouth appoints Nicoll as treasurer
PLYMOUTH, Vt. – At the July 15 meeting, the Plymouth Selectboard accepted a resignation letter from Treasurer Elaine Pauley, who worked for the town for eight years. “To no surprise,” it was time for Pauley to retire. Pauley said in her letter, “I am grateful to you and all the town employees for your support…Working here was one of the most fulfilling jobs I’ve ever had.”

Saturday, July 20 at 11 a.m.—WALLINGFORD —Wallingford Day, the town’s annual community celebration, is shaping up to be a day chock-full of family-friendly events. Starting with a morning of town-wide yard sales and the final hours of the town newsletter’s silent auction fundraiser, and culminating in a fireworks display at sundown, the day promises something for everyone. The main events take place in the village center and nearby recreation field, with activities up, down, and around Main Street and School Street.
Woodstock fire chief requests new engine, ladder trucks
At Tuesday night’s Woodstock Selectboard meeting, Fire Chief David Green requested the purchase of two new fire trucks for an estimated $2.9 million. “I hate to be the bearer of bad news here, but my suggestion is that we buy a new engine and a new [ladder truck] and go back to the fleet that we used to have,” said Green.
