‘Armed and dangerous’ NC man wanted after woman found dead in stolen car, sheriff’s office says

MCDOWELL COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) — More information has come to light regarding a wanted North Carolina man who officials announced they were looking for last week.

According to the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office, Ryan Ricky Houston, 41, has still not been found by officials.

Officials said that Houston broke into the home shortly before midnight on August 1, assaulted the homeowner and stole a car and firearm.

Deputies eventually found the car crashed on I-40 near exit 90. Officials confirmed that a woman was found with stab wounds in the vehicle.

The woman died from her injuries and was identified as 41-year-old Malerie Lauren Crisp of Asheville.

“This is a terrible tragedy for several communities and families. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those involved,” states Sheriff Ricky T. Buchanan. “I appreciate the collective efforts from our local, state and federal law enforcement partners on this ongoing investigation.”

Houston is believed to have then broken into Skyline Marine, stealing a blue 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The four-door pickup truck is a 4×4 LTZ.

Deputies said the back windshield has the phrases “Skyline Marine,” “Honda” and “Bass Cat” on it.

This is not Houston’s first run-in with the law. The 41-year-old is currently out on bond for attempted first degree murder and assault on law enforcement in Buncombe County.

Law enforcement said that Houston is believed to be armed and dangerous, and that anyone who sees Houston or the vehicle do not approach and call (828) 652-2235 or 911 immediately.
