BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A Birmingham family is mourning a grandfather killed in a double homicide that left another dead and two injured Thursday night.

“I don’t know what could have made this happen. I just cannot believe it, I just cannot,” Victoria Williams said.

Kerry Jackson Jr., 31, faces two capital murder warrants and two attempted murder warrants. He will be booked into the Jefferson County Jail and held under no bond.

One of the capital murder warrants is connected to a kidnapping charge as Jackson forced an adult female family member into a vehicle at gunpoint during the shooting, according to Birmingham police.

One of the victims is Jackson’s father, identified by family members as Kerry Jackson Sr., who is being treated at UAB Hospital. Jackson’s grandfather, 76-year-old Anthony Jackson, was shot and killed in the 1400 block of 17th Place Southwest.

BPD’s preliminary investigation suggests the shootings stemmed from an argument that was “domestic in nature.”

The family is still in shock, telling CBS 42 News they recently celebrated Jackson Sr.’s 53rd birthday together. Williams provided an update on how her father is doing.

“He just got out of surgery, and we’re just waiting on the doctors to call and let us know that everything is all well,” Williams said. “When we went to see him last night, they said that he was stable and he was going to pull through.”

Jackson Jr. was living in the same home as his father. At the time of the shooting, there was also a three-year-old child and an older woman inside the home. They were unharmed.

Kelvin Jackson grieves his father Anthony and is doing his best to move forward.

“I didn’t want him to go out the way he did, I’d rather let time take him,” he said. “It’s a hard pill to swallow, but it’s got to be swallowed.”

Among the victims was Laquita Dunn, 49, who was pronounced dead at the initial shooting scene. Her mother described her as being loved by many. The Parker High School graduate leaves behind seven children and five grandchildren. Jackson Jr.’s brother offered the family of Dunn his condolences.
