BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — The suspect in the death of a 40-year-old Birmingham woman has pled not guilty in relation to the case.

Body of missing woman found in Birmingham

Cedric Robertson, of Birmingham, pled not guilty Monday to capital murder by reason of mental disease or defect, according to Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.

Robertson is accused with the kidnapping and death of Nakita Davidson in April. He was taken into custody on a first-degree kidnapping warrant after Davidson was found dead inside her 2008 Saturn Outlook in southwest Birmingham.

Birmingham police responded to the corner of Sixth Avenue SW and MLK Jr. Drive around 2:11 a.m. on April 11 regarding a call about a two-vehicle crash. Officers at the scene discovered one vehicle, pink Nike shoes and criminal evidence. The BPD stated it believes Robertson shot Davidson, placed her inside her car and left the scene.
