    Former UAB running back finds new role with program

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — UAB football’s career leader in all-purpose yards has found a new way to contribute the program after playing five seasons for the Blazers.

    Former UAB running back Jermaine “Skull” Brown Jr. announced on the social media platform X on Monday that he is back with the Blazers. This time, however, he is helping UAB as an offensive quality control coach for running backs.

    From 2019-23, the Prichard native recorded 5,026 all-purpose yards. Brown is one of three UAB student-athletes to recorded over 3,000 career yards. When he took off the Blazer uniform for the last time, he had 30 rushing touchdowns to his name.

    In the 2023 campaign, Brown led the American Athletic Conference with 129.5 all-purpose yards per game. He registered 13 total touchdowns, 808 rushing yards, 416 receiving yards and 331 returning yards. Brown was invited to the 2024 Minnesota Vikings’ rookie minicamp.

    UAB started the season Thursday with a 41-3 victory over Alcorn State. The Blazers will face ULM in Monroe, Louisiana, on Saturday.
