BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – CBS 42 is Your Voice Your Station. Unsafe trees that lingered more than decade over a Birmingham woman’s home have been chopped down following our months-long investigation.

There is a space between Genora Amerson’s property and the neighbor’s property behind her. It’s owned by the city – and no one would help her get rid of the trees with limbs that kept falling on her fence and shed until CBS 42 started investigating in June.

“These was killers,” Amerson said. “These was killers and they gone now.”

CBS 42 reported on this at the end of June before another large limb fell . It wasn’t until mid-August that the City of Birmingham started to take care of the problem.

“One of the guys said ‘oh, I know you – I  saw you on TV, so we better do a good job’ – I said yeah,” Amerson said.

Councilor J.T. Moore oversees her district. He said he’s just as excited as she is about the trees being taken down.

“I’m excited that we as a city were able to assist her in that matter and really be able to bring some peace of mind to her situation,” Moore said. “My goal is to help out in whatever way possible to rectify the situation.”

Moore said to contact My Bham 311 if you are ever in a situation like Amerson.

“With the help of 42 news and you, Jen Cardone, I appreciate you, I appreciate you,” Amerson said. “You helped us and everything. I think without that, I don’t think this would have happened.”

There’s still brush and trimmings left behind. Amerson said she wishes the city would come back and take care of it but was told otherwise by a city official.

“I could get a lawyer if I think I need to get one, you know, but she said they are finished,” Amerson said. “That means they are not coming back out to do anything.”
