His business received over $30,000 through the Resurgence Grant Fund in October, a program launched...
Problems Continue Over Fulton Co. Redistricting Map Process
FULTON COUNTY, Ga. (CW69 News at 10) — Elected officials say politics and chaos have kept Fulton County from proposing a fair redistricting map by the state deadline. Now, there’s a rush to get lawmakers to push a proposed map through the process to avoid legal issues. Less than 90 days away from the state’s primary elections, State Representative Mesha Mainor (D-56th Dist., Atlanta) says the Fulton County Commission has failed to propose a fair redistricting map. “The impact of this failure would force the citizens of Georgia to vote on 2010 census data until 2024,” Mainor said. She said that maps...

Special Grand Jury Granted In Georgia’s Trump Election Interference Probe
ATLANTA (CBS News) — A Georgia district attorney’s request to have a special grand jury impaneled for her investigation into possible interference in the 2020 presidential election by former President Donald Trump has been granted. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis asked on January 20 for the special grand jury. Her request “was considered and approved by a majority” of the county’s Superior Court judges, according to an order filed Monday by Fulton County’s chief judge. Willis had written in her request that her investigators had “information indicating a reasonable probability” that the election “was subject to possible criminal disruptions.” Willis has said in interviews that the investigation includes a January 2, 2021 phone call in which Trump told Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, “I just want to find 11,780 votes.” Trump lost the state to Joe Biden by that margin, and the outcome was affirmed by several recounts. Americans Are Quitting At Record Rates. Georgia Leads The Pack.
WASHINGTON (CBS News) — A record number of American workers quit their jobs before the holidays, but the trend wasn’t evenly spread across the nation. Employees in a handful of states handed in their resignations at a much higher rate than the national average, according to new government data. About 4.5 million people quit their jobs in November, an all-time high, the government said earlier this month. But on Friday, the Labor Department provided a state-by-state peak at where workers are quitting, noting that 22 states experienced an increase in the so-called “quits rate” in November, while only 2 states experienced a decline in worker resignations. The states with the highest quits rates are those experiencing tight labor markets and low unemployment rates — exactly the combination that’s causing employers to dangle incentives like higher wages and better benefits to lure new workers to their open jobs and keep the ones they already have. It’s all part of the so-called “Great Resignation,” which is marked by workers leaving their current jobs for a number of reasons, ranging from starting their own businesses to opting for early retirement. ATLANTA, Ga. Ashlee Starr has volunteered for the PIT count in Atlanta for the last 15 years. “It really just entails asking people questions, gaining some demographic information,” she said. “I believe that we can end homelessness, and I think the best way to do that is to understand the needs of people experiencing homelessness.” HUD requires local governments to do a PIT count on the coldest day in January. Free COVID-19 Test Rollout Begins Early Online
A day ahead of the scheduled rollout of free COVID-19 tests distributed by the Biden administration, some Americans are already placing orders for their free deliveries through a form posted by the U.S. Postal Service. However, some early visitors to the website Tuesday morning were already able to see a button to order their free tests — a limited rollout that appears to have been expanded to more visitors later Tuesday afternoon. Every household is eligible to order four rapid antigen COVID-19 tests for free, to be delivered by the Postal Service, which will begin shipping tests in late January.
