After winning the first 11 games of the season in 2023, the Ohio State Buckeyes had another trip to the College Football Playoff in their sights. However, a loss to Michigan to end the regular season saw them left out, while a loss to Missouri in the Cotton Bowl led to a third consecutive 11-2 season. Now, the Buckeyes have made major changes ahead of Ohio State football training camp and fans will be eager to see how those changes might impact the Ohio State football roster.

New offensive coordinator Chip Kelly and transfer quarterback Will Howard from Kansas State will have to hit the ground running for Ohio State football to survive the new-look Big Ten. Top Ohio State Buckeyes practice storylines

Another major storyline for Buckeyes football entering Ohio State training camp will be how different will this offense be under Chip Kelly. Former Ohio State wide receiver Brian Hartline was the offensive coordinator last season but he was made the co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach this offseason when Ohio State initially hired Bill O'Brien. When O'Brien left to take the head coaching job at Boston College just a few weeks later, the Buckeyes made waves once again by hiring Kelly, the head coach at UCLA to fill the role.

Kelly won 25 games the last three seasons with the Bruins and was also a head coach of the Oregon Ducks, the Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers. He's widely considered one of the brightest offensive minds in the game and Day coached under Kelly at several stop throughout their careers. So how exactly will the offense change with Kelly at the helm and how will Hartline adjust to a more limited role after it was confirmed that Kelly would be calling plays this season? Another major storyline for Buckeyes football entering Ohio State training camp will be a potentially dynamic defense with playmakers at every level. The Buckeyes had the second-best scoring defense and allowed the third-fewest yards per game in college football last season and elite defense has been a part of the team's identity in the Big Ten over much of the last decade. This year should be no exception with two defensive backs and two defensive linemen on the preseason watch list for the Nagurski Award, which is given to the top defensive player in college football.

Defensive end J.T. Tuimoloau was second on the team in sacks (five) as one of the Nagurski Award finalists and cornerback Denzel Burke was tied for the team lead in pass deflections (eight) and also recorded an interception and forced a fumble. Safety Caleb Downs, another on the preseason watch list, transferred in from Alabama after leading the Crimson Tide in tackles with 107 - 40 more than any other player on the roster. Downs was the first freshman to lead Alabama in tackles in more than 50 years and if he can bring that toughness to Ohio State, he'll fit right in with one of the best defenses in college football.
