The Bills and Chargers had similar off-seasons in which they replaced proven receivers like Keenan Allen, Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis. The teams are hoping youngsters like Quentin Johnston, Ladd McConkey and Keon Coleman step up, making them potential 2024 Fantasy football breakouts. Additionally, the two squads brought in journeyman wideouts like Chase Claypool and DJ Chark, who are on their third teams in as many years, but given the number of targets that departed, either could be one of the 2024 Fantasy football sleepers. One of the 2024 Fantasy football sleepers the model is predicting: Patriots running back Antonio Gibson. After piling up 701 touches over his first three seasons in Washington, Gibson finished with a career-low 113 touches for the Commanders in 2023. However, he was heavily involved in their passing attack, setting new career-highs in targets (59), receptions (48) and receiving yards (389).
Now, he'll head to New England, where he'll serve as a change-of-pace to Rhamondre Stevenson, who has missed 10 games in his first three seasons. In PPR formats, the model deems Gibson worth a late-round flier, predicting that he finishes as a top-40 Fantasy football running back despite the fact that he's the 50th player off the board at the position on average. Top 2024 Fantasy football breakouts
One of the 2024 Fantasy football breakouts the model is predicting: Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams. The No. 12 overall pick in 2022 saw his rookie season start late due to a college injury and was then suspended to start last season. However, he's flashed game-breaking ability including in the NFC Championship Game when he had 42 yards and a touchdown on the ground, plus 25 yards and a score through the air.
Detroit moved on from starting wideout Josh Reynolds, with no notable receiver additions through the draft or free agency. That paves the way for a much bigger role for Williams, who should see nothing but single coverage when sharing the field with Amon-Ra St. Brown and Sam LaPorta. Detroit ranked second in passing yards last season, so the targets will be there, and the model has identified Williams as a Fantasy football 2024 breakout. Top 2024 Fantasy football busts
As for players to avoid, the model lists Bears wide receiver Keenan Allen as one of its 2024 Fantasy football busts. Allen was traded to the Bears this offseason after spending the first 11 years of his NFL career with the Chargers. The former second-round pick out of Cal has put together a Hall of Fame-caliber career, but SportsLine's model is calling for him to have a dip in production in 2024.
Allen will be playing in an offense led by rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, who is sure to experience growing pains as he transitions to life in the NFL. Allen will also be competing for targets with wide receivers Rome Odunze and D.J. Moore, tight end Cole Kmet, and running back D'Andre Swift.
