2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship odds, picks, field: Surprising predictions from model that's nailed 13 majors

The FedEx Cup Playoffs tee off Thursday from TPC Southwind in Memphis for the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship. It's the first of three playoff tournaments and a chance to secure enough points to qualify for the following week's playoff as the field cuts from 70 golfers at the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship to 50 golfers the following week. Jordan Spieth, Viktor Hovland and Justin Rose are three of the bigger names in the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship field currently outside the top 50. Given their need for a standout performance to advance further into the playoffs, are they longshots to consider to win when making 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship bets?
Hovland is +3500 and Spieth is +5500 in the latest 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship odds, so should you consider playing them to win the FedEx St. Jude Championship 2024? Scottie Scheffler is the +360 favorite after winning the gold medal in Paris, followed by Xander Schauffele (+750) and Rory McIlroy (+900). Before locking in your 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship picks, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine .
SportsLine's proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, the model is up more than $9,500 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.
This same model has also nailed a whopping 13 majors entering the weekend, including the 2024 Masters -- its third Masters in a row -- and this year's PGA Championship and U.S. Open. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.
One major surprise the model is calling for at the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship: McIlroy (9-1), a 26-time winner on the PGA Tour and one of the top favorites, stumbles this week and doesn't even crack the top five. McIlroy has racked up two wins and six top-10 finishes this season. He's also coming off a strong showing at the Olympics, securing a T-5 finish in Paris.
However, McIlroy missed the cut in his last start on the PGA Tour and he's struggled with accuracy this season. The four-time major champion enters the FedEx Cup Playoffs ranked 71st in driving accuracy (61.84%) and 90th in greens in regulation percentage (65.98%), which doesn't bode well for McIlroy's chances to finish on top of the leaderboard. Another surprise: Tommy Fleetwood, a 28-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. Fleetwood has a much better chance to win it all than his odds imply, so he's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. Fleetwood won the silver at the Paris Olympics with four rounds under 70 and finishing at 18-under-par, just one shot behind Scheffler.
Fleetwood finished T-3 at last year's FedEx St. Jude Championship before finishing T-6 at the Tour Championship. He finished third in his first FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind in 2019. He's ninth on the PGA Tour in total driving and eighth in driving accuracy this season and given his long odds, the model sees Fleetwood as a longshot to back this weekend. How to make 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship picks
The model is also targeting four other golfers with odds of 25-1 or longer who will make a strong run at the title. Anyone who backs these longshots could hit it big. You can only see the model's picks here .
