The race to East Lake is officially on as the 2024 FedEx Cup Playoffs kick off this week in Memphis at the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship. Welcoming the top 70 players from the regular season, TPC Southwind will once again serve as the site for the first postseason event.

While qualifying for the playoffs is a feat in itself, players face an opportunity to set up their 2025 campaigns for success should they make their way to the next round. Cutting the field from 70 to 50 players, the St. Jude Championship represents the last chance for some to play their way into next week's BMW Championship and ultimately next year's signature events.

Those currently on the outside looking in include Jordan Spieth, Justin Rose, Mine Woo Lee and reigning FedEx Cup champion Viktor Hovland. Serving as the defending champion the next two weeks, the Norwegian is in jeopardy of not being able to compete to retain his postseason crowns.

In his place, world No. 1 and Olympic gold medalist Scottie Scheffler stands atop the FedEx Cup standings. Scheffler has substantial lead over Xander Schauffele and Rory McIlroy. He will look to build on his advantage and enter the Tour Championship as the top name for the third straight year.

Others in contention to usurp Scheffler before East Lake -- given the 4X multiplier on FedEx Cup points in the playoffs -- include Collin Morikawa, Ludvig Åberg, Sahith Theegala, Patrick Cantlay and Tony Finau — all of whom have yet to win this season.
