Everything has changed for USMNT midfielder Weston McKennie in the past week. After the American player was excluded from the pre-season tour at Juventus, the Bianconeri manager Thiago Motta announced he was reintegrated in the team before the first game of the season against Como, and then the club announced today that McKennie has extended his deal at the club for a further year, until the summer of 2026.

McKennie, who had a previous agreement valid until the summer 2025, signed a deal for another year worth €4.5 million for this season and the next one, for a total of €9 million net in the next two years, sources told CBS Sports. McKennie can now focus on the new season after a difficult summer, where he was excluded from the squad and close to leave the club multiple times.

The American midfielder was one of the central players over the past season under coach Massimiliano Allegri, but then talks over a new deal at the club stalled and the club decided to sell him in the summer. However, multiple potential landing spots fell through, including one with Aston Villa when McKennie refused to join the English side in the same deal that brought midfielder Douglas Luiz to the Bianconeri this summer. From that moment, the relationship with McKennie got worse and the player was definitely excluded from the squad.

Now, weeks later, both sides decided that the best solution was to continue together, as McKennie can become a crucial player also under Thiago Motta, who defined him as "useful player" in the pre-match press conference against Como. McKennie last season played 34 out of 38 Serie A games and was one of the key midfielders of Juventus. He can now look at his future at the club in a much more positive way, especially after signing a deal that guarantee him to play at least two more years in the Italian Serie A.
