Jordan Spieth completes long-awaited left wrist surgery after disappointing, winless 2024 season

After a down year for Jordan Spieth, the three-time major champion announced Saturday that he has completed left wrist surgery after an injury to the appendage bothered him for most of the last two years. The hope is for a quick recovery and return to form next season.

"I had a procedure on my left wrist last week, as I had mentioned was the plan," Spieth said in a statement. "The operation went smoothly, and I'm grateful for the exceptional medical team and support of [wife] Annie and my family. Focused on rest and rehab, and I look forward to returning to golf healthy and prepared for 2025!"

Spieth mentioned -- after missing out on the last two FedEx Cup Playoff events -- that going under the knife was his plan.

"I've got to have it operated on ASAP, and then I'll go through the process of what I'm supposed to do from there," he said. "If I don't have a reason to try to rush back -- which I don't -- I'll probably just take it as slow as I can."

Spieth had just three top 10 finishes during the 2024 season, and his best placement was a 3rd at The Sentry, the first PGA Tour event of 2024. He did not have a single top 20 at the four major championships.

Spieth completed one of his two worst iron-play seasons; he performed at a below average clip for all of 2024, according to Data Golf. While he stated that his wrist was not necessarily bothering him while striking the ball, Spieth also admitted that he could not imagine that the injury was not playing a role in how accurately he hit irons.

Earlier this season at the Masters, Spieth said it was "an ECU tendon issue that, unfortunately, I've not fixed," that was causing his  issues. "When it flares up, it flares up for like 24 hours, and then it just slowly gets better."

Spieth will not participate in The Sentry, and he has not automatically in the PGA Tour's signature events for 2025 as he did not finish in the top 50 in the 2024 FedEx Cup standings. However, he could still play in those events if he's inside the top 30 in the Official World Golf Rankings or he receives a sponsor invite to one of the eight events the PGA Tour has started to highlight.

The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Genesis Invitational, Arnold Palmer Invitational, RBC Heritage, Truist Championship, Memorial Tournament and Travelers Championship will serve as the PGA Tour's other signature events in 2025.

Spieth may start his 2025 season at the Sony Open in Hawaii the week after The Sentry.
