Wilson completed eight of 10 passes for 47 yards in Saturday's 9-3 preseason loss to the Bills. Wilson's stat line was underwhelming, but it overstates how well Pittsburgh's first-team offense was able to move the ball. That wasn't necessarily on Wilson, as he was under constant pressure and sacked three times. He narrowly missed out on connecting with George Pickens near Buffalo's goal line on his final drive of the game, though the duo's rapport may be lacking after Wilson missed a significant amount of training camp with a calf injury. The Steelers have consistently stated that Wilson is the starting quarterback heading into the season, though this performance didn't do him any favors in his competition with Justin Fields.

The Astros are expected to select Whitcomb's contract from Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports. The 25-year-old is one of the Astros' top remaining prospects after the trade deadline and has taken a major step forward at Triple-A this season with 25 homers, 26 steals and a .293/.378/.530 slash line in 108 games, which earned him his first look in the big leagues. Whitcomb has played all over the diamond at Sugar Land, and while he's seen most of his playing time at second base, third base and shortstop, Houston's major lineup hole is at first base. The utility player is likely to see plenty of action there in addition to the corner outfield and designated hitter spots.

Kelce caught one reception for eight yards on one target in Saturday's preseason game against Detroit. What looked like a nifty trick play turned out to be a comical and fortuitous accident, as Patrick Mahomes threw a behind-the-back screen pass to Kelce that was later clarified as Kelce running the wrong route and Mahomes throwing behind the back out of momentary necessity. Either way, it's more of the same story from the past six years -- Mahomes and Kelce dominating, be it by accident or design. Particularly with the downfield speed of Marquise Brown (sternoclavicular) and Xavier Worthy spreading defenses thin, Kelce should see a lot of targets in 2024.

Hooker has overcome the concussion he suffered Aug. 8 and was able to play the entire second half Saturday after Nate Sudfeld handled the first. The 2023 third-round pick out of Tennessee presumably figures into Detroit's roster plans through at least the 2024 season, but the competition with Sudfeld for the QB2 role behind Jared Goff might be ongoing. The two quarterbacks had comparable overall performances Saturday, but Hooker's 80.0 percent completion rate was markedly more efficient than Sudfeld's 51.9 percent figure.

Whitcomb went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored in Saturday's 6-1 win over the White Sox. Whitcomb didn't feature in Friday's contest after receiving his first career call-up from Triple-A Sugar Land. He only had to wait a day for his debut, and he made the most of it as one of six Astros to log multiple hits. Whitcomb got the start at third base in place of Alex Bregman (elbow), who is considered day-to-day. Whitcomb slashed .293/.378/.530 with 25 home runs, 26 stolen bases, 91 RBI and 73 runs scored over 108 contests with Sugar Land. Assuming he adjusts adequately to major-league pitching, his defensive versatility should be enough for him to find his way into the lineup, especially if he can push the struggling Jon Singleton for playing time at first base.
