Rutgers put an exclamation point on its Week 1 win over Howard by punching in a touchdown as time expired to make the final score 44-7. Bison coach Larry Scott didn't appreciate that decision, and he let Scarlet Knights coach Greg Schiano know about it.

With seven seconds left in the fourth quarter, Rutgers held a 38-7 lead and possessed the ball at the 11-yard line of Howard. Instead of taking a knee and letting time expire, the Scarlet Knights ran one more play, and running back Antwan Raymond barreled his way into the end zone for one last touchdown.

When the two coaches shook hands at midfield, Scott said something to Schiano while pointing to the end zone, and they parted ways. It looked like that may be the end of it, but Schiano circled back and continued the conversation while walking off the field.

In his postgame press conference, Scott admitted there was some "frustration" on his part.

"I think we're both two competitive people," Scott said. "And in that situation, I would choose to handle it a little bit differently. I can't speak for him. I have a lot of respect for Coach Schiano, what he's done and what he's been able to do. But we're both competitive. And in that situation, you know, just a little bit of frustration came out because I thought it would have been handled differently. But he might as well."

Schiano defended himself, saying that he was just getting reps for as many players as possible in the first week of the season.

"Guys practiced all training camp. They deserve to play," Schiano said. "There was no running it up. If it was running it up, you don't use timeouts when you have the ball. You let the game end. That wasn't retaliatory. We were going to run plays. We bring a team in here to play us. We bring them here. We bring them in, we've got to win and we've got to get reps. And they were there, we took them."
