Perryville, Rising Sun mourn losses of well known officials
PERRYVILLE — Officials and residents of two Cecil County towns are in mourning after the loss of two well-known former elected officials. James “Jim” Eberhardt, Mayor of Perryville from 2004 to 2018, died Tuesday morning. He was 80. Clint Bowers, former Rising Sun Commissioner who served several terms between 2004 and 2012, has also passed. He was 89. The Cecil Whig is working on getting stories from people in each community who knew these men well. A common theme thus far is that both loved their respective towns and would do anything for that town’s benefit.

Speed cameras coming to Interstate 95 in Cecil County
BALTIMORE — Construction zones on Interstate 95 in Cecil County will be monitored by Automated Speed Enforcement equipment beginning July 10, according to the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration. In conjunction with Maryland State Police Maryland SafeZones Automated Speed Enforcement, the Maryland Transportation Authority will deploy the equipment both north- and southbound around the Belvidere Road interchange. For now, the fine for going above the 65 mile per hour speed limit is $80 but starting Jan. 1 Maryland will institute a tiered penalty system with fines up to $1,000.
Perryville, Cecil County School of Tech grad bound for US Air Force Academy
PORT DEPOSIT — Yesterday, Trevor David entered the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado as a member of the Class of 2028. A member of the Class of 2023 at Perryville High School and the Cecil County School of Technology where he studied in the Homeland Security program, David has since graduated from the USAFA Preparatory School. That 10-month program, according to the Air Force, prepares young men and women for military service along with Basic Military Training and Air Force life including Culture and Character Training. He was notified May 17 that he had been appointed to the USAF Academy and had until May 20 to make his intentions known. Cadet David will report to the US Air Force Academy June 26.
