    2024 All-County Girls' Track and Field

    Athlete of the Year

    Caroline Mercer, Rising Sun, Throws

    Became a two-time Class 2A state champion in girls’ discus after winning the Class 2A State Championships with a throw of 133’ 4”. Added top five finishes in discus with second place finishes at the Cecil County Championships and Chesapeake Division Championships, plus third place finishes at the UCBAC Championships and 2A East State Championships. Showcased her versatility in the short sprints, winning Cecil County titles in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. Mercer holds three county-best performances from the spring, including her state-winning throw in discus, plus times of 12.88 in the 100 dash and 27.02 in the 200 dash.

    Coach of the Year

    Jill McKay, Rising Sun

    Led Rising Sun’s girls’ squad to a first place finish at the Cecil County Championships with 158 points. The Tigers added a top three finish at the UCBAC Championships and a fourth place team finish at the 2A East Region Championships.

    Sage North, Elkton, Sprints

    North finished the year with top five finishes in the 200-meter dash during championship meets, including second place finishes at the Cecil County Championships and the UCBAC Championships. Ended the spring with a time of 27.06 at the 2A East Region Championships, the second-fastest time in the county this past spring across 200 meters.

    Emma Bare, Rising Sun, Sprints

    A promising freshman that excelled in the sprints for the Tigers. Finished her first season with a runner-up finish at the Cecil County Championships in the 100-meter dash, plus a third place finish in the 200 dash. Finished with four top 10 finishes at postseason meets. Held the second-fastest county time of 13.37 in the 100-meter dash. Also served as a member of Rising Sun’s softball team that won a Class 2A State Championship.

    Elaina Ness, North East, Sprints

    Showcased her ability in the 400-meter dash, while serving as a reliable member of North East’s relay teams. Ness won the 400 at the Susquehanna Division Championships, while placing third at the Cecil County Championships, fourth at the UCBAC Championships and sixth at the 2A East Region Championships. Served as a member of North East’s 4x400-meter relay that won a Cecil County title. Her time of 1:03.19 across 400 meters served as the second-fastest 400 time in the county this past spring.

    Katie Callaghan, Rising Sun, Hurdles

    An all-around hurdler who collected hardware at championship meets in both hurdle events. Callaghan won Cecil County titles in the 100 and 300 hurdles, while adding top five finishes in the both events at the UCBAC Championships and 2A East Region Championships. Qualified for the 2A State Championships in both events, placing sixth overall in the 300 hurdles and 10th in the 100 hurdles. Held three county-best times in the 100 hurdles (16.03), 300 hurdles (47.27) and the 400-meter dash (1:03.06).

    Madi Cleary, Rising Sun, Hurdles

    Finished the season with six top five finishes at championship meets in the 100 and 300 hurdles. Finished as the runner-up in both hurdle events at the Cecil County Championships, while placing fourth overall in both hurdle events at the UCBAC Championships and fifth overall in both events at the 2A East Region Championships.

    Leanna Rogers, North East, Distance

    A versatile runner with the ability to compete in the middle and long distance events. Rogers finished the spring with a pair of individual Cecil County titles in the 800 and 1600, while anchoring North East’s county champion 4x400 relay. Finished in the top three of the 800, 1600 or 3200 five times throughout the spring. Qualified for the 2A State Championships and competed in all three events. Finished fifth overall in the 800 and 1600 at the state meet. Ended the spring with county-best times across 800 meters (2:23.56), 1600 meters (5:17.89) and 3200 meters (11:43.34).

    Skylar Pizzulli, Bohemia Manor, Distance

    The lead distance runner for Bo Manor’s girls’ program, Pizzulli captured two individual titles at championship meets, plus a silver medal at the 1A State Championships. Won the 3200-meter run at the Cecil County Championships and earned a region title at the 1A East Region Championships. Finished second overall in the 3200 at the state meet with a time of 11:47.14. Placed second overall in the 3200 at the Susquehanna Division Championships.

    Sytieia Brown, Elkton, Throws

    Brown won a pair of 2A East Region titles in the throwing events, to go along with three other championship meet wins in her senior season. In shot put, Brown won the Cecil County Championships, Chesapeake Division Championships and UCBAC Championships. Brown added a division title in girls’ discus. Qualified for the 2A State Championships in both throwing events. Finished her spring season with a county-best mark of 39’ 7” in shot put.

    Haille Dry, North East, Throws

    A strong competitor in both throwing events, Dry combined for nine top three finishes at championship meets during her junior season. Dry was crowned a county, division and conference champion in discus, while finishing second at the 2A East Region Championships. Added a division championship in shot put. Qualified for the 2A State Championships in both events. Finished the year with a third place finish at the state meet in shot put and fourth place result in discus.

    Maya Stoneking, Bohemia Manor, Jumps

    Stoneking won a Cecil County title and a Susquehanna Division crown in the high jump for the Eagles. Placed fourth overall at the 1A East Region Championships and qualified for the 1A State Championships. Placed ninth overall in Class 1A in the high jump. Ended the season tied for the county-best height in high jump of 4’ 8”.

    Briana Poullard, Bohemia Manor, Jumps

    A specialist in the long jump and triple jump, Poullard finished the year with a Cecil County title and Susquehanna Division Championship in the long jump. Added a second place finish at the county championships in triple jump and third place result at the Susquehanna Division Championships. Finished fourth overall at the 1A East Region Championships in the triple jump.

    Colbie Rondone, Perryville, Pole Vault

    The top girls’ pole vaulter this past spring, Rondone won a county title and 1A East Region crown in the event. Added a second place finish at the Susquehanna Division Championships and a sixth place result at the UCBAC Championships. Qualified for the 1A State Championships in the pole vault and both hurdle events. Finished the season with a county-best height of eight feet.
