NORTH EAST — Cecil College has a long history of supporting students pursuing health care careers and recently added several scholarships toward that pursuit.

Earlier this month, the family of the late Frank W. Muller Jr. announced the establishment of a scholarship in his memory for students in the college’s paramedic program.

“The scholarship honors the dedication and service of Frank Muller, who saw the implementation of Paramedic education in Cecil County, which was an integral part of our EMS system and its growth in service to meet the needs of our community,” said his son, Robert Muller. “This opportunity to help students meet their potential and grow in the EMS profession extends his vision into the future, ensuring a legacy of shaping the EMS profession and helping our communities.”

Robert Muller is President of the Harford Cecil Volunteer Firemen’s Association.

Meanwhile, the 2024 graduating class of physical therapy assistants made its mark by having a 100% passing rate on the national exam.

“This accomplishment is particularly noteworthy as the NPTE underwent significant updates in 2024, introducing a more challenging format and content,” said Cecil College Physical Therapist Assistant Program Director Deanna Smith. “This success underscores the strength of Cecil College’s robust curriculum and the dedication of its expert faculty, who are committed to cultivating top-tier clinicians.”

New PTAs include James Brindley, North East, Julia Coyne Earleville, Jenna D’Amico, Lincoln University, Pa. Marissa Grigora, Abingdon, Md, Richard Kind, Townsend, De and Skylar Sheppard, Elkton.

Also, five students in the Licensed Practical Nurse program passed their coursework and were pinned last month, signaling completion of the coursework and training.

“These students displayed outstanding teamwork, a testament to the unity and support essential in nursing. Their journey from novice nurse to expert will be one of continuous education and lifelong learning. This program is just a stepping stone in that journey,” said Assistant Professor of Nursing Amy Smythe, MSN, RN, the Coordinator for the LPN Program at Cecil College.

Dorothy Berry of Elkton, Danielle Collins from North East, Angela C. Ebling from Elkton, Tiffany Kitts also from Elkton, and Jenny Steuernagle of North East are now official LPNs.
