(Ripley County, Ind.) - Genesis: Pathways to Success resumed its A Summer of STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) initiative this week with Jedi Knight Academy. 36 students from schools across Southeast Indiana assembled at Oldenburg Academy to satiate their desires to enter the world of Star Wars and become Jedi Masters.
11 Indiana Communities Receive Training, FundingThrough the Creative Convergence Program
(INDIANAPOLIS)The Indiana Arts Commission announced today that 11 Indiana communities have received training and been approved for grant funding through the Creative Convergence program. Creative Convergence is a program of the Indiana Arts Commission, held in partnership with the Indiana Communities Institute at Ball State University’s Miller College of Business. The program was launched in 2023 and consists of a two-day training workshop and an Early Action Grant Program. Teams of community members representing local government, arts organizations, educational institutions, and other community-focused roles were in attendance.
Southwest Indiana Area Health Education Center Gets $1.49M Grant for SANE Training Project
Southwest Indiana Area Health Education Center (AHEC), hosted by the University of Southern Indiana, has received $1.49 million in federal funding distributed over the next three years from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to continue the Indiana SANE Training Project. The project provides advanced nursing education statewide to increase the number of forensic nurses, also known as sexual assault nurse examiners (SANEs). SANEs are specifically trained to provide evidence-based, trauma-informed medical care to victims of sexual assault or abuse and to ensure specimens are collected appropriately.

Cook County opens cooling centers as heat index soars to 100 degrees
CHICAGO - Cook County is opening cooling centers due to a forecast of heat indexes reaching up to 100 degrees from Sunday through Tuesday. The centers will be available 24 hours a day, starting at 7 a.m. on July 14 and running through 4:30 p.m. on July 16. They are located at the Skokie, Maywood, and Markham Courthouses.
