Lake County Parks and Recreation hosts an afternoon of music and vintage baseball at Deep River County Park
On Sunday, July 14, Lake County Parks and Recreation hosted its Music and Baseball event at Deep River County Park. The Legacy Foundation, a Lake County-based community enrichment foundation, sponsored a concert by the South Shore Brass Band. Assembled in front of Deep River County Park’s gazebo, the band offered up a varied selection of toe-tapping tunes. Attendees then headed over to the park’s very own Grinder Field to watch the Deep River Grinders and Danville, Illinois’ Vermillion Voles face off in a 1858-style vintage baseball game. Attendees of all ages enjoyed hot dogs, cookies, and ice-cold Sioux City Sarsaparilla, a Deep River County Park special.
I&M: Less than 3,000 customers remain without power following storms
(WPTA) - Indiana Michigan Power shares that as of 9 p.m. Tuesday, only about 2,900 customers are still without power. Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) has provided another update after 16,000 customers were without power Tuesday morning after a line of thunderstorms moved through the area. I&M says more than 70% of those affected have had their power restored noting that less than 8,000 customers are without power as of 1 p.m.
Anheuser-Busch Donates Drinking Water to Indiana Fire Department
An effort to get more cans of emergency drinking water to local fire departments is underway, thanks to Anheuser-Busch and the National Volunteer Fire Council. Emergency preparedness is something we hear a lot about, particularly around September during National Preparedness Month. The public service announcements and alerts used to roll right over my head, but now, as a married man with a house and several animals, it's something I keep in mind a little more these days. Disasters can happen at any time, as was clearly seen earlier this week when multiple weather hazards hit the area. If you ask me, preparing for disaster is not only an individual responsibility but also a community responsibility.

Forbes: Community Healthcare System one of America’s Best Employers for New Grads
Community Healthcare System, now Powers Health, has landed in the top 20% on Forbes’ 2024 list of America’s Best Employers for New Grads. To compile the list, Forbes partnered with market research firm Statista and surveyed more than 100,000 young professionals working for companies with at least 1,000 employees in the United States. Community Healthcare System ranked No. 83 out of 400 employers on the list. No other Northwest Indiana healthcare employer made the list.
