SOLON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Work is underway on a new day care for dogs in the Cedar Springs area.
Petz Prefurred, a $2 million dog day care, boarding center and ‘spaw’ is set to open this fall at 14175 Edgerton Ave. near 17 Mile Road off of US-131 in Solon Township. Project and local leaders gathered at the site Tuesday for a groundbreaking ceremony, though construction is already underway on the 8,000-square-foot building.

Owners Aaron and Vera Lenartz said they were inspired to open Petz Prefurred when he asked her what her dream job is. Vera Lenartz, who worked in healthcare for several years, told him her dream job would be working with dogs all day.
“I have a background as being an entrepreneur, I own a couple other businesses,” Aaron Lenartz told News 8 after the groundbreaking ceremony. “I thought this would be a great way to segue what I do and what she wants to do, and create her dream.”
After doing research, they picked the spot near US-131. They said there’s lots of demand for a dog day care in the area, and being so close to the freeway offers a convenient spot for customers.

Cedar Park Mayor Lisa Atchison, who spoke during the ceremony, told News 8 there are several pet owners in the area who will benefit from a business like Petz Prefurred.
The dog day care will offer enrichment and sensory activities with limited kennel time. There will be outdoor play areas, a grooming facility and a mix of overnight and long-term boarding options, with 12 small dog kennels and 35 modular medium kennels that can be combined to make a larger kennel or a space for dog siblings.
There will also be 12 luxury kennels with private runs and play areas.
“We treat our animals, our dogs like family, like our children. So that’s how we want to treat your animal and your pets,” Vera Lenartz said. “We just want to become a big family.”
“With the support of the community, the mayor and everyone, we just really feel that this is the right thing to do and we’re really, really excited to get this open as quickly as we can,” Aaron Lenartz said.
“We’re going to treat you and your dog like family,” Vera Lenartz said.
