    Mr. Darroll Fred Freeman

    Mr. Darroll Fred Freeman of Cedartown, Georgia passed on Friday, July 19, 2024, at the age of 94. Mr. Freeman was born November 16, 1929 in Sugar Hill, Georgia to Hinton and Avie Freeman.

    Mr. Freeman was raised in Sugar Hill, Georgia and a member of the champion Sugar Hill basketball team. He married Virginia Reed on October 1, 1948. They were married for 60 years.

    Mr. Freeman began his career in the paper industry at Graham Paper Company and then Howard Paper Company of Atlanta before moving to Cedartown. In 1965 he joined Cedartown Paper Board Company where he held multiple positions before taking ownership. During his 50 year tenure he expanded the company to Bay Minette, Alabama, Jacksonville, Florida and Kountze, Texas.

    In his retirement he enjoyed gardening his prize winning dahlias, fishing, traveling and spending time with family.

    Mr. Freeman was an active member of First Baptist Church, Cedartown for nearly 60 years. He served as a member of the Board of Directors for Commercial National Bank. He also served more than 40 years on the Board of Directors for Polk Medical Center and for 45 years as an active member of Cedartown Rod and Gun Club. Mr. Freeman was past President and member of the Board of Directors of Cherokee Golf and Country Club.

    Mr. Freeman is preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Virginia Reed Freeman; his parents, Hinton and Avie Freeman; brothers, Wendell (Sally) Freeman, Claude (Mary Ann) Freeman; brothers-in-law Dan Reed, James Reed; sister- in-law Reba Reed.

    He is survived by his children Reed (Debbie) Freeman, Dale Freeman (Rick Hall); grandchildren: Molly Freeman Jordan (Jason), John Reed Freeman (Ali); great-grandchildren: Caroline Jordan, Neelley Jordan, Stuart Jordan, Wren Freeman; brothers-in-law: Garrett Reed, Stanley (Sandra) Reed; sisters-in-law: Linda Reed, Sheila Reed, numerous nieces and nephews; special friend: Barbara Bowen.

    The celebration of Mr. Freeman’s life will be held Thursday, July 25, 2024 in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church, Cedartown at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. His family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 from 6:00-8:00p.m. at Smith and Miller Funeral Home.

    In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Our House, Domestic Violence Program for Polk County,( P.O. Box 1647 Cedartown, Georgia 30125) or the National Kidney Foundation, (Attn: Gift Processing at National Kidney Foundation HQ, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016).
