Fame blooms from Munger artist’s island scene
The annual Mackinac Island Lilac Festival was held last month celebrating the flowers famous on the island. This year one local artist had a hand in promoting the festival. Emily Ryers of Munger had her artwork chosen during a contest used to create a poster promoting the Lilac Festival. Ryers beat out 74 other contestants for the opportunity to have her poster used for festival promotion. The art was also used on a beer can that was sold on the island, and the winner got $1,000. The top 20 entries were chosen by jurors based on rules for the competition. Of those top 20 the jurors then chose the winners. This wasn’t the first time that Ryers tried out for the competition either.
