Centerville coffee shop gets YouTube boost, named best in state

CENTERVILLE, Ohio ( WDTN ) — A recent YouTube video series has been searching for the best coffee in each state. For Ohio, a Centerville shop called ContempoRoast was selected.

ContempoRoast is a woman, Veteran, and family-owned shop that opened in 2023.

The young shop is quickly gaining success.

“It’s encouragement for moving forward. We’ve been open for about 16-17 months in the café. It’s really been about double that in terms of work and planning before that so it’s nice kind of seeing it all start to bear fruit,” said Co-Owner Andy Hoffbauer. “You know, we planted the seed and now it’s got a little sapling.”

The shop was featured on the YouTube channel, Distilled Brewed & Reviewed, which has been searching the country for the best coffee as part of a year-long project.

One of the categories of consideration for the selected shops is reviews. With over a hundred five-star reviews, the owners of ContempoRoast chalk that up to one thing.

“Our people. I think people is and should be the focus for pretty much every aspect of what we’re doing at its heart.” said Hoffbauer.

The owners are very humbled to be recognized on a national platform.

“There are a lot of other roasters that could’ve been picked to represent the state, so we feel incredibly honored that we are the one that was settled upon,” said Hoffbauer.

ContempoRoast is a shop that gets back to the basics. Coffee beans are roasted in house with the roastery visible through a window located at the back of the café.

“Just a continued focus on the fundamentals, making sure we’re having simplicity and good quality ingredients. Making sure if you want to look behind the scenes, hey let’s show you, we’re not trying to hide anything, we’re not trying to cut corners, it’s just sustainability and transparency.” said Hoffbauer.

Inspired by west coast trends, there are fun or simple drinks everyone will enjoy. Hoffbauer says there are multiple drinks that have become fan favorites.

“Our candy pistachio latte, that’s caramel, pistachio, and a little bit of cinnamon, with espresso and steamed milk which is really good,” said Hoffbauer.
