    Alleged shoplifting call turns into multicounty Kentucky police chase

    GREENVILLE, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — Two people have been arrested after an alleged shoplifting call turned into a multicounty police chase.

    Kentucky State Police (KSP) said the Muhlenberg County dispatch received a call from the Central City Walmart about two people shoplifting.

    LATEST KENTUCKY NEWS:

    The Powderly Police Department and Central City Police Department tried to stop a silver 2019 Toyota Camry on the Kentucky 189 Bypass near Powderly, but a police chase began.

    The chase went through Muhlenberg, Hopkins, and Mclean counties on at least eight different roadways.

    The chase ended when officers used a “legal intervention maneuver” when the Camry began driving southbound in the northbound lane into oncoming traffic on the Kentucky 189 Bypass.

    KSP said the driver of the Camry was identified as 36-year-old Sean D. Stratton of Russellville and a passenger was identified as 28-year-old Selexus C. Zamperla, of Madisonville. They both were taken into custody and lodged in the Muhlenberg County Jail.

    LATEST KENTUCKY LISTS AND RANKINGS:

    Stratton was charged with:

    • Speeding 26 MPH or greater
    • First-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle)
    • First-degree possession of a controlled substance, second offense (methamphetamine)
    • First-degree operating motor vehicle under the influence (aggravated circumstances)
    • Drug paraphernalia
    • First-degree wanton endangerment (police officer)
    • First-degree criminal mischief
    • Improperly on left side of road
    • Reckless driving
    • Theft by unlawful taking over $500

    Zamperla was charged with:

    • Public intoxication
    • Theft by unlawful taking over $500

    The investigation is ongoing.
