CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. — Firefighters and local officials in a Long Island village are entitled to qualified immunity on a resident’s Fourth Amendment claim filed after the fire department entered his property without permission or a warrant after a neighbor complained. A federal court in New York ruled that exigent circumstances authorized the entry, as there was a strong gas odor originating from a decaying car battery, posing a fire hazard.

Town Of Smithtown Live Music Series Kicks Off Summer
The Town of Smithtown Recreation Department kicked off the start of Summer with the first weekend of free outdoor live music at Long Beach and Hoyt Farm. LIMEHOF to host free ‘Beatles on the Balcony’ concert June 30
Free Concert to be preceded by awarding of Ten Thousand Dollars in Music and Performing Arts Scholarships to High School students from across Long Island. The Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame (LIMEHOF) will hold a free concert entitled “Beatles on the Balcony” featuring The Liverpool Shuffle (a popular Long Island based Beatles tribute band) on Sunday, June 30 starting at 3 p.m. at LIMEHOF’s Stony Brook museum location, 97 Main Street, Stony Brook. If necessary, the rain date for Beatles on the Balcony will be Sunday, July 28 at 3 p.m. The scholarship program will still go on June 30 regardless of weather.
Lee Road students show patriotism for Flag Day
Students throughout Lee Road Elementary School in the Levittown School District showed pride in their community and country during Flag Day celebrations on June 14. Dressed in red, white and blue, fifth graders learned about the rich history of the nation’s flag from members of the Levittown American Legion. They discussed the evolution of the flag’s design beginning with its inception and reviewed the proper guidelines for displaying the flag. Students were active parts of the presentation and asked American Legion members engaging questions. Additionally, in Mrs. McCarty’s first grade class, students learned about the aspects that make up the flag, such as its 13 stripes and 50 stars. The lesson helped first graders understand the early history of the United States.

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board invite residents to celebrate our nation at a special “Salute to America” concert and Grucci Fireworks Show scheduled for Tuesday, July 9th at a special start time of 7:30 p.m. at TOBAY Beach. This year’s “Salute to America” will feature a performance by Lee Rocker of the Stray Cats, and will conclude with a spectacular firework show by Grucci. This event honors veterans and members of the United States Armed Forces. Concertgoers are urged to bring folding chairs and pack a cooler, as no formal seating exists. “Our ‘Salute to America’ provides a great opportunity for families and seniors to enjoy a free evening of music and entertainment while celebrating our freedoms in America and the veterans and active duty military who secured those freedoms,” said Supervisor Saladino. “This year’s concert features Grammy-nominated Stray Cats founder and bass player Hall of Famer Lee Rocker, who will undoubtedly give a wonderful and fun performance.
