The Crook County Cowgirl softball team took both ends of a doubleheader from Molalla on Friday.

Although both games were played in Prineville, Molalla was the home team in game one as it was a makeup game that was originally scheduled to be played in Molalla. Crook County won game one 14-2 in five innings due to the 10-run rule, then made quick work of game two, winning 15-0 in three innings with the 15-run rule.

“We are looking forward to moving forward into the post season,” Crook County head coach Jeremy Puckett said.

It was senior night for the Cowgirls, who were in control the entire afternoon. Crook County exploded for 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning of game one, then added four more runs in the second. Molalla scored a run in the fourth, and one in the fifth, but never were in contention in the blowout Crook County victory.

“This felt so good,” senior Kylyn Fildes said. “It felt like our team. It felt like the skill level we could play at. It felt like our energy and the way this team should play every time. I think it made it even better to get business done on senior night. Usually senior night can be distracting, but we used it as momentum.”

The Cowgirls had 10 hits in the game, while Molalla had just four hits. Raelynn Weaver had a pair of doubles while Tylee Cossitt had a double and Fildes blasted a home run. Weaver added a single, while Jolene Bartolotti and Cossitt both went 2-3. Kendall Martinez, Alyson Ware and Adyson Luna and Aleya Pagan each had singles.

Meanwhile, Jaycee Villastrigo threw a complete game for the Cowgirls, striking out 10 and walking two.

The Cowgirls were even more dominant in game two, scoring four runs in the second inning and 11 in the third. The game was called with runners still on base and just one out in the inning.

Crook County was able to score the 15 runs with just eight hits. However, Molalla pitcher Trynity Dunlap struggled with control, walking four and hitting six batters.

Kya Mozingo and Azmita Pennington each went 2-for-2 at the plate, while Bartolotti, Weaver, Martinez, and Cossitt each had a single in the game.

Weaver pitched a complete game for the Cowgirls, giving up two hits while not walking a batter and striking out five.

With the pair of wins, the Cowgirls improved to 10-5 in conference play and 15-10 overall, while Molalla fell to 2-13 in league and 5-19 overall. Crook County finishes the regular season in second place in the Tri-Valley Conference and ninth in the OSAA power rankings. The team will learn who it will play in the first round of the post season this upcoming week.

“I think we can take the energy that we had in these games and drive us through the post season,” Fildes said. “We all have our hearts back in softball and we are ready to go. I think we can play with or beat any one of the top teams.”
