Warrington sheep caper continues with four of the flock still on the lam

Chalfont-area neighbors have been on high alert for sheep sightings since Rob Jerman's flock of six escaped their 15-acre enclosure last month.

Users in a local Facebook community group have posted nearly daily for news on the sheep. "Whose yard are the sheep in this morning? I need an update!" one user wrote.

On Friday, a neighbor on Stump Road shared exciting news: "THE SHEEP ARE IN MY UPPER FIELD. My repairman who was here just asked me if I got sheep," she wrote.

That led a posse of five sheep-nabbers to the field, where they recovered two of the runaways by cornering the sheep against some fencing. Jerman and other neighbors spent hours chasing the other four in the heat, but could not touch them.

"People are learning just how fast sheep can be when they want to be," Jerman said, noting that they outran and outsmarted six adults.

Many neighbors who glimpsed the sheep early on didn't even have enough time to snap a photo before the flock moved on. "I thought for sure it was a hoax," one Facebook user wrote.

Jerman has help from both human and animal friends, including his border collie. When the four remaining sheep got into a yard, the collie "started to do just what she was supposed to do," Jerman wrote, until she "saw a person and veered off to say hello." Jerman's friend Brynn Posavec, an equestrian who helps care for the sheep, has also tried lassoing the flock.

He's now considering tranquilizer darts, but they'll need to pierce thick wool — the sheep have become extra fluffy during their three-week excursion.

Jerman estimated that his group covered four and a half miles again on Sunday, trying to get the other four sheep. He thinks the whole flock has covered several miles since their escape from Warrington, noting that they had to cross Limekiln Pike, a busy road, to reach their present location.

The sheep are "like family," Jerman wrote, reminiscing about previous flocks who would follow him from his car after a grocery run to shake him down for bananas. He thanked all of the neighbors and local farmers who've watched over the sheep and helped catch them.

"Heck of a way to meet your neighbors, but I do have the sheep to thank for meeting some delightful and caring people," Rob Jerman wrote.
