CHAMPAIGN — The University of Illinois College of Fine and Applied Arts has selected Jacob Pinholster, currently serving as a dean at Arizona State University, to lead the college.

Pending UI trustee approval, Pinholster will take over the position on Sept. 16.

He is the executive dean for enterprise design in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at ASU, and the founding director of ASU’s Media and Immersive eXperience Center.

Since graduating the University of Florida, Pinholster’s career has included multiple projects to use technology and interdisciplinary innovation in the art and design space.

He has credits in media and production design for shows like the “Pee Wee Herman Show,” “Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson,” “Carrie Fisher: Wishful Drinking” and more.

John Coleman, UI Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost, said Pinholster was chosen during the national search for his clear vision for FAA, past successes and enthusiasm.

“Professor Pinholster’s focus on community and collaboration will enrich the college and our campus by fostering creativity, critical thinking and cultural engagement,” Coleman said.
