CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Illinois 10 (Springfield Avenue) will be closed to traffic starting next week, the Illinois Department of Transportation announced.

Beginning on Monday, July 8, the road will be closed while the overpass carrying Springfield Avenue over Copper Slough — just east of Duncan Road — gets replaced. IDOT officials said the project is expected to be completed in five months and until then, detours will be posted.

Officials added that drivers should expect some delays and allow for extra time when traveling through the area or take alternate routes. They encouraged drivers to pay close attention to signs and changed conditions in the work zones, obey the speed limits, stay off of mobile devices and be extra alert for workers and equipment in the area.
