    Police investigating after 2 killed, 2 hurt in Champaign shooting

    CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The Champaign Police Department has opened a homicide investigation after two teens were killed and another two victims were hurt in a shooting early Sunday morning.

    Officers arrived in the area of Cynthia and Anita Drives at 12:34 a.m. Several people were found with gunshot wounds. The victims were treated by police and Champaign Fire Department personnel until they could be taken to a nearby hospital. One victim went to the hospital through personal transport.

    After an interview, police learned that there was a gathering in the parking lot of an apartment complex when a person or persons started opening fire. Four victims and one car were hit.

    Two women hurt in overnight Champaign shooting

    Two 18-year-olds from Champaign, one man and one woman, were severely injured. Police said the man was shot in the chest and the woman was shot in her leg and torso. They were later pronounced dead in the Emergency Department of Carle Foundation Hospital.

    George Dorris-Rodgers and Daniyjah Staple were identified as the deceased victims by Champaign County Coroner Stephen Thuney. Dorris-Rodgers passed at 1:05 a.m. Staple was pronounced dead at 1:08 a.m.

    Two other victims were also hurt, but remain in stable condition at the hospital: a 15-year-old boy, who was shot in the leg, and a 25-year-old woman who was shot in the arm.

    Teenager arrested in connection to Champaign armed robbery

    No arrests have been made yet, the Champaign Police Department said. They continue to canvass the area and review nearby security footage. Any surveillance camera owners around the scene of the crime are encouraged to share their footage with police.
