Illinois defensive back Miles Scott talks to reporters on Tuesday. By BOB ASMUSSEN asmussen@news-gazette.com

Greetings from "Can't Wait For Saturday," your morning morsel of college football, courtesy of longtime Illini beat writer, AP Top 25 voter and Heisman state rep Bob Asmussen. He'll give you his views each day on the game he loves

If you wander by the Smith Center at about noon these days, you might see a pack of media types waiting to get in.

I'm the one with the digital recorder, which replaced the giant cassette recorder that used to get in the way of camera shots. Not intentionally, of course.

The Smith Center is the venue for daily media sessions, which are held before the players and coaches go into meetings and practice.

On Tuesday, the focus was on the defense, with Miles Scott from the secondary, linebacker Dylan Rosiek and lineman TeRah Edwards available. Along with line coach Terrance Jamison.

The entire session went about 30 minutes. A similar media availability is scheduled for Wednesday.

The BTN studio crew is scheduled to come to practice Thursday, part of its annual training tour. It got a bit harder to do with the four West Coast schools added. Those are being covered by other reporters.

The News-Gazette will be out in full force for each interview opportunity. That means myself, Scott Richey and Loren Tate.

If you have any specific questions you want asked, send them to me at asmussen@news-gazette.com. In the next three weeks, we will cycle through most of the prominent players and all of the coaches. I'm your eyes and ears.
